Hi! I am Krystal O’Connell. I grew up in my grandmother’s natural foods store in a small town in Wyoming. In my adult life, I spent many years managing the natural living and supplements departments in the same kind of stores around the Denver area.
In 1999, I graduated as Naturopathy Diplomate, Master Herbalist and Iridologist from the School of Natural Medicine in Boulder and have a solo practice. My additional work is in Skilled Caregiving/Personal Assisting, Prison Ministry, Hospitality. I enjoy making medicines in my spare time from the plants growing around my home in the Mountains of Colorado, and am a chicken farmer, gardener, and bookkeeper for my husband’s construction company.
I look forward to chatting about good nutrition on Be Happy Nation podcasts!

My name is Paul Porter, a historian and researcher currently working on my master’s degree in history through Harvard University. I have worked with historical artifacts on the professional level for around 10 years. My skill is analyzing historical events and culture in the context of their era. Additionally, I collect antique books and manuscripts with a focus on those from the 17th century with a theological or esoteric subject matter.
I have studied a wide range of topics including ancient medicine, psychological topics namely hypnotism and graphology, Renaissance alchemy, the development of Christian Theology, the formation of secret societies, the development and philosophy of the esoteric and occult, along with ancient cultures and their practices.
I have known Marilyn Jenkins for many years, and she has never failed to inspire with her creativity. It is my honor to be able to participate in such a valuable organization as Be Happy Nation.

Hello! I am Fritz Karltin. I am a unique character who writes about the fifty careers I had out of high school, and that spanned over twenty years. My first job after high school was as an apprentice at a four-star hotel where I learned the food service industry. After three and a half years of juggling college, work, and battling with a standardized recipe instructor, I dropped out of the program. This employment led to a turn of events that would change the course of my life.
During my two weeks’ notice at the hotel, I was arrested for mistaken identity, and while waiting months for a jury trial, I had my driver’s license suspended. After my acquittal, I purchased a one-way ticket on a greyhound bus and headed south to begin two decades taking and quitting jobs as I traveled across the country. I had over fifty jobs on my “working vacation”. My only possessions were what I could carry. I’d bed down on someone’s couch and sometimes my choice was without shelter. I dedicated these 20 years to punishing policies which I followed religiously:
If I was dumb enough to quit all my jobs, then I would suffer the consequences, and never borrow a dime from anyone.
Navigating my life’s journey with similar principles brought me through many peaks, valleys, and challenges that I describe in my books. My strange but true stories of my experiences and how they unfolded are too good to keep bottled up. It is a great honor to team up with Be Happy Nation to share the knowledge of my memoirs that can help all of us grow in this ever-changing world.

Michael Givens is a local Denver musician originally from Iowa. He studied classical voice in college at Iowa State University and after his degree continues to play a range of different styles in the local Denver scene and Front Range. Aside from performing, he also composes and arranges original music for his groups, and releases solo projects on streaming platforms under the producer alias “WickedAlgae”. Staying active is a passion; and it’s manifested through the physicality of his job in beverage distribution, and getting outdoors to mountain bike and run. He’s running his first Colfax marathon in May of 2022! He has been following exercise and nutrition tips from fellow runners to be fully prepared.
Cooking is also a hobby, and these wellbeing ideas have been trickling into his diet and mindset for a number of years. It’s been a pleasure for him to join this wellness movement both with producing BHN musical content and joining the collective optimism for bettering ourselves!
